This slide show is the product of my work this week in TPTE 486. It is a guitar-themed image collection that has pictures from the internet, a program called Big Box of Art, and personal photographs I have taken. I created the slideshow using the Picassa program from the Google Suite. This was the least enjoyable product I've used of the Google Suite of products. The intuitive nature of most Google products was not present in this program, especially for embedding the slideshow into this blog. I will probably play some more with this product, but I don't have high hopes for it. It was a good experience, though, and I feel that I could use this program to embed a picture collection in a teacher website if I needed to.

Zack,
ReplyDeleteI regret the confusion in class over which Picasa tool to use for this project. Truly, the photo album was just a means to an end, which was simply that every preservice teacher demonstrate proficiency in safely, legally, and ethically locating digital images from a variety of sources and compressing them for online publication. By publishing the final collection in a Picasa album, you are simply adding an additional layer of transparency to the task, allowing everyone (not just your instructor) to learn from your demonstration of competency.
Minimally, you should have a greater appreciation for the value of using visuals to enhance instruction and the steps you must go through to obtain appropriate visuals for instruction. Your textbook provides ample research evidence on pp. 155-157 to support this practice.
To build on this assignment, you might think about how embedded slideshows (does not have to be Picasa) could enhance your band program, say on your band's homepage or perhaps the band boosters' homepage. Photos of band trips, contests, and performances are good PR for your program and could be used for recruitment of new members. That's just one idea. Can you think of more?
