This week we spent all in-class time creating an iMovie "Digital Story." I decided that I would not use something like this in my classroom, so I created a completely random movie about making my lunch dreams come true. It was fun creating it, and iMovie '09 worked like a charm for me. It was very intuitive and easy to use. I don't see a use in the choral classroom, but now I know I can do it if I have to. Plus, it was pretty fun to make up a song on the spot for the background. The above video is the product of this week's work!

  1. I am puzzled by your dismissal of digital storytelling and its potential use in choral instruction. What about for purposes of documentation, feedback, and discussion? What about performance? What about assessment? What about promotion of your program and recruitment of new students? What about parent-community outreach? iMovie may not be your chosen production tool -- many of your peers have noted they can achieve the same overall effect using video embeds inside a PowerPoint. Some prefer Movie Maker and there are countless other multimedia and video editing tools out there.

I hope you join a campus with a strong boosters program. Perhaps a parent can be your digital storyteller/videographer? Better yet, recruit a student to document your program.

Also, you may find this post by another music ed student from last summer to be helpful. She raises some good points about using video for assessment.
